CAUSE

Most of the time, this is caused by not being able to resolve the fax server's name in DNS. Verify this is the case by attempting to use a web browser to go to "http:nameoffaxserver///"

Something on the network or local machine (client, Fax Server or Domain) is blocking outbound port 80 (or port 60 if the fax server's HTTP Service is loading on port 60)

SOLUTION

Add the fax server's name to DNS or add an entry to the hosts file.

McAfee Corp. Edition version 8.0i includes a spam blocker that can be set to block outbound IP traffic on port 25 and port 80 for any application except for Internet Explorer. You will have to also allow NS-ClientSuite.MSI in order to install it. After installing the Client Suite you will also need to allow PopupNotifier.exe or it will also be blocked.
Other Virus programs and Spyware programs may also have this port blocking capability.
