Updated 10/09/2013

Configuration information to save from your previous fax server

Migrating or moving your NET SatisFAXtion server's settings from one machine to another is fairly easy. Please review the following and decide which settings and data you want to migrate, then follow the indicated steps. It is recommended you save the following information to a backup location before uninstalling and re-installing NET SatisFAXtion on the same machine, or moving to a new machine or Virtual Machine.

Note that the new server must have NET SatisFAXtion installed before hand. If you have a current support agreement, you can download the latest release from our Update Center.

Backup the Registry

Export the key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FaxBack]
This registry backup can be used as a reference later for any custom settings you may have. (DO NOT Merge this backup reg file to your new server, you WILL DAMAGE your installation)

Email Gateway

There are no files to backup, however run the current email gateway setup and write down your mail server and account settings, including SSL/TLS settings if used. Be sure to install an email gateway if you had one installed before.

Dialing Rules

If you have customized the dialing rules for your location, copy this file to the new server:
From: C:\Program Files\NET SatisFAXtion\
Copy:
  • validate.rul

Fax Log Database

If you would like to retain your fax logs so you can see your history for the Reports application, stop the NET SatisFAXtion and NET SatisFAXtion instance of the SQL service, then copy these files:
From: C:\Program Files\NET SatisFAXtion\Databases\
Copy:
  • NET_SatisFAXtion_Logs.dat
  • NET_SatisFAXtion_Logs.dat.ldf

User List

This includes your user list, groups, and routing information.
Copy these files from your old server to the new one.
From: C:\Program Files\NET SatisFAXtion\
Copy:
  • GroupMembers.fbf
  • Groups.fbf
  • LineManager.fbf
  • UserAliasList.fbf
  • UserList.fbf
  • UserListInfo.fbf

Current Fax Image Data

Copy the two folders and contents
From:
  • C:\Program Files\NET SatisFAXtion\Data
  • C:\Program Files\NET SatisFAXtion\Queues

Cover Sheets

If your users have any customized cover sheets, copy these entire directories:
From: C:\Program Files\NET SatisFAXtion\
Copy:
  • Cover Sheet Templates
  • Templates

FAXability 2,3 User Queues (legacy, not needed for FAXability 3.0)

If you have any FAXability clients, copy this directory:
From: C:\Program Files\NET SatisFAXtion\
Copy:
  • User Queues

NOTE: This article does not cover moving an Email Gateway, Fax ATA Connector or FAXability 3.0x installations. They will need to be re-installed on the target machine or virtual machine.
