Winword does a fine job of converting cover pages and any other Rich Text Formatted document, however has more overhead and can be slower than Wordpad. The only reason to do this is for performance when the need to convert a lot of cover pages in the scheduled queue at the same time.

Advanced level comfort in the registry required.
Change the File Association for .RTF to use Wordpad instead of Winword. Restart the fax server service.

Step 1:
Verify the full path to Wordpad.exe on your OS (typically this is C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows NT\Accessories)

Step 2:
Determine the current version of Microsoft Word
1. Expand HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.rtf
2. Copy the value of the key (Default) to the clipboard. We will call this searchvalue

Step 3:
Find HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\searchvalue\shell\Printto\command

1. This value will help locate the OPEN command for Microsoft Word. Go to Edit / Find, or do a Ctrl F to bring up the search dialog
2. paste the searchvalue in to search. Use "Find next" to search until you get to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\searchvalue

Step 4:
1. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\searchvalue\shell\Printto\command

2. Backup this key by exporting it to a safe location
3. Modify "(Default)" amd replace the "Data" with
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows NT\Accessories\wordpad.exe" /pt "%1" "%2" "%3" "%4"

Step 5:
Restart the NET SatisFAXtion service for this change to take effect.

"C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories\WORDPAD.EXE" /pt "%1" "%2" "%3" "%4"
